Sam Hansen, EFO, CET, EMT-P

Battalion
Chief Sam Hansen,
CET, EMT-P with the Vestavia Hills, Alabama Fire Department has
30 years experience in the fire service. He has been a licensed
paramedic for the past 28 years. During the last sixteen years
he has served as a battalion chief and special operations officer. He has over 14 years experience as an emergency response consultant providing industrial rescue services and training to a variety of private clients including, the aerospace industry, chemical manufacturing, petro-chemical |
| companies,
military facilities,and pulp and paper mills. In addition to his
extensive industrial background, Chief Hansen has taught the Incident
Management System (IMS) and confined space rescue to a variety
of organizations across the United States, including, law enforcement,
military, conservation officers, foresters, EMT's and fire service
personnel. Chief Hansen served as past Chairman of the Disaster
Preparedness Committee, for the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs
(AAFC) and represents the AAFC as a Fire Resource Coordinator at
the State Emergency Operations Center during State level disasters.
He presently serves on the Alabama Disaster Medical Assistance
Team, (Al-1 D-MAT). He holds a B/S degree in Public Safety Administration along with an AAS degree in both Emergency Medical Services and Fire Science and. He is a Certified Environmental Trainer (CET), certified by the National Environmental Training Association. He presently serves as an adjunct instructor for several out of state colleges as well the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Center for Labor Education and Research (CLEAR), and Jefferson State Community College. Chief Hansen was a technical adviser and participate in the History Channel Production, entitled, "Suicide Missions, Hazardous Materials Response", and the training video, "Confined Spaces Deadly Places", produced by the Alabama Rual Community Fire Protection Institute. His work on confined space entry and rescue has been published in national fire journals and his Applied Research Projects on Confined Space Rescue, Incident Management, and Rapid Intervention Team Operations are on record at the National Fire Academy Learning Resource Center, Emmitsburg, MD. He is also co-author of the textbook, entitled, "Confined Space Entry and Emergency Response," published by, McGraw & Hill. |
